They aren't big profit-makers. And get-rich-quick knuckleheads will try to get their own version up and try to \"make money\" with the least effort. Frankly, books that are in this category make very little money these days - \u003Ci\u003Eunless you add in additional value\u003C\/i\u003E. But know that their glory days are long gone. However, that makes your marketing that much easier, as at least they've had glory days - and so are fairly well known already.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Ca name='more'\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nYour efforts would then be in creating a new version which is more valuable than what's already out there. (You'll still have to market this new version, but it's not as hard as promoting some book\/author no one has ever heard of.)\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nFor our use, the epub\/ebook versions which are available for most classic fiction works can be gotten for free - but mostly these have been machine-converted, and so have errors or missing table-of-content, etc. Free is what you pay for.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nThe advantage in editing these is that you can simply transform them into additional versions once you get the text sorted out and ready.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003E\n\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.midwestjournalpress.com\/buy-bestseller-fiction-books.php\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EHow to Publish Public Domain Classic Bestselling Fiction - in \u003Cstrike\u003E11\u003C\/strike\u003E 12 Easy Steps.\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/h3\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E1. Pick your text version carefully.\u003C\/b\u003E The fewer errors it has, the less time it will take to transmogrify it into your new, improved version. I suggest getting the .epub version, as it's already converted to html\/xml, so is straight text.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E2. Use \u003Ca class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/calibre-ebook.com\/\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Calibre (software)\"\u003ECalibre\u003C\/a\u003E to convert that epub to .\u003Ca class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rich_Text_Format\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Rich Text Format\"\u003Ertf format\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/b\u003E (If it has images, convert it to html. The .doc and .rtf coming out of \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/calibre-ebook.com\/download\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ECalibre\u003C\/a\u003E won't have images.) Involving Calibre at this early stage sets you up for publishing ease later.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/b\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E3. Open it up in \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/download\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ELibre(Open)Office\u003C\/a\u003E and edit it into shape.\u003C\/b\u003E This is so you can use the Writer2Epub plug-in to make an epub out of it. Fastest is to strip the earlier formatting out of it and then go through it chapter by chapter, adding headings as you do. These headings will make your Table of Contents when you export it. Use search\/replace and style sheets to get it uniform and reading easily. (I set up the page as 6x9, as that approximates a tablet's view - and is trade paperback size, for later export.)\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E4. Create the cover with \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.gimp.org\/downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EGIMP\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/b\u003E Needs to be attractive, with big text and nice image. That image can be public domain as well... While there, I create a 8 1\/2 by 11 (2000 px by about 2900px) for the main cover, then a smaller one for web pages (325px wide), plus a thumbnail (180px wide). Only the print version wants a 300dpi version, the rest are all 72dpi for web. (Technical enough for you? Hire someone if that's over your head - or get ready for a learning curve.)\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/b\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E5. Compile your description and all other vital data into Calibre.\u003C\/b\u003E Your cover and description are what really sells the book - or gets the potential buyer to view the preview. Leave the Calibre metadata page open, as this is where all the data you'll need for posting your books will be readily available.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E6. Start up a project on \u003Ca class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Lulu\"\u003ELulu\u003C\/a\u003E and get your \u003Ca class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Standard_Book_Number\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"International Standard Book Number\"\u003EISBN\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/b\u003E\u0026nbsp; Then plug that ISBN into Calibre to keep track of it, into Libre Office\/Writer2Epub for exporting - and this also gives you the search string for Kobo ( http:\/\/www.kobobooks.com\/search\/search.html?q=[ISBN-goes-here].) Leave that tab open.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E7. Export your \u003Ca class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/\" rel=\"homepage\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"LibreOffice\"\u003ELibreOffice\u003C\/a\u003E version to \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/sigil\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ESigil\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/b\u003E and check\/correct for any errors.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cb\u003E8.
